Volunteer Information

Our camp is run 100% by volunteers, which also helps keep our costs low!

Maple Valley Day Camp has been a wonderful place for girls in our community to make new friends, create adventures, and enjoy a week of pure fun every summer. Since we are run totally by volunteers, it is people like you that make camp possible!

Why volunteer?

1. Increase your chances of getting into camp.

Maple Valley Day Camp is very popular and we fill up extremely fast, but the children of our full time volunteers are guaranteed a spot. Campers without volunteers are automatically placed on a waitlist until enough camp positions have been filled.

2. Get a bargain!

Volunteers receive a $90 discount on your campers' fees.

3. Give younger children a summer to camp at too!

It can be hard to find a summer camp for children under 7, and as a parent it can be even harder to let them go! When you volunteer at Maple Valley Day Camp, you can enroll your younger children and boys in special units just for them, comfortable in the knowledge that you're nearby.

4. Bond with your kids and meet their leaders.

Every day, your campers will come home with stories about their day, along with new songs and skills they have learned. Volunteering at camp offers a fantastic opportunity to live in your children's world and share their summer experience.

5. Build your confidence

Maple Valley Day Camp offers training classes that will walk you through every step of the way. As a new volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work with mentors and experience first-hand how much fun it can be to work with kids.

6. Make new friends and have fun!

Many of our volunteers have so much fun at camp that they keep coming back for years after their kids graduate from being campers.

What are my duties at camp?

Most of our adult volunteers work in one of our camper or specialty units. Our adult volunteers have a chance to pair up with another adult and girl staff (LITs and Senior Aides). The adult's job before camp is to get to know their LITs and Senior Aides and help assist in planning a few hours of unit time in their schedule (the rest of it will be pre-planned). During camp, the adult's responsibility is to help their older girls be successful in leading a unit. We encourage the older girls to take the lead and do as much as they feel comfortable, with the adults offering support when needed.

Volunteers are required to attend once a month trainings prior to camp, where they will get to work together with their unit staff.
